R2M Engineering is a Lubbock-based transportation/civil engineering, environmental, and safety firm. Our engineering division provides civil engineering, construction oversight and management, site development and land surveying services. R2M is currently looking for Construction Inspector/Engineering Assistant(s) to perform construction engineering and inspection duties on highway and bridge construction projects throughout Texas utilizing TXDOT policies and procedures. This includes proper reporting and documentation utilizing Site Manager and any other required means. Inspector may be required to be the lead inspector on highway and bridge construction projects and responsible for all inspection and documentation.
General Job Description
Transportation Construction Projects (80%-100%):
- Conduct construction inspections on bridge and highway projects for conformance with TXDOT construction specifications
- Observe, measure and record all construction quantities for contractor payment including understanding of mathematical calculations associated with quantity measurement
- Monitor project phasing and traffic control plans including reviewing traffic control daily, to ensure adherence to approved safety standards
- Consult with Project Engineers and contractors’ superintendents on work progress and construction problems
- Meet with contractor’s supervisors or other project leaders on assigned project sites to discuss and coordinate testing, sampling, or inspection of construction materials or construction procedures
- Resolve differences in interpretation of plans and specifications
- Prepare daily reports and maintains an inspection diary
Site Development/ other Engineering Projects (up to 20%):
- Assist crew leader/surveyor with all aspects of field survey operations; including operating conventional surveying equipment to perform topographical, hydrographical, engineering design, and boundary surveys
- Record survey measurements and descriptive data using field data collector, drawings, and sketches
Solve for angles and distances to locate property corners and field points
Requirements:
- Must be willing to travel
- Must be able to lift 60 lbs
- Able to read and interpret applicable plans, specifications, and reports
- Knowledge of highway construction plans, construction inspection procedures and material testing
- Must be able to plan and coordinate construction activities
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions, procedures, and protocols
- Currently possess or have the ability to possess the Level 1B Roadway Specialist certification
- Currently possess or have the ability to possess the ACI certification (Wet & Dry)
- Must be able to effectively communicate in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing, in order to convey problems and status of work in daily reports
- Must be detail-oriented and self-motivated
- Required to work hours other than 8 to 5 and may be required to work weekends and holidays
- Employee will be required to drive to and from projects
- Must have good driving record
Preferred Skills:
- Previous experience in Highway or TXDOT construction projects
- Mathematic confidence
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is a plus
- The primary emphasis is highway and transportation construction engineering support, however candidates with the ability to support with other engineering and land development projects is a plus
